The 861 Receiving Advice/Acceptance Certificate
The EDI 861 document falls under the Manufacturing Series category. The Receiving Advice/Acceptance Certificate comes in two varieties: the EDI 861 as it is known in ANSI X.12 format, and the RECADV as it is known in EDIFACT format. The 861 is most commonly utilized by suppliers to confirm products have arrived at the specified shipping location, and most commonly used in conjunction with the 856 Advanced Ship Notice to confirm fulfillment of a purchase order.
Any vendor looking to improve shipping accuracy, save time, and reduce cost should look no further than implementing a warehouse strategy that utilizes the 861 Receiving Advice/Acceptance Certificate. This document is a fantastic compliment to the traditional 856 Advanced Ship Notice commonly used by manufacturers and retailers alike.
Vendors looking to do business with major companies like Office Depot and Wal-Mart in the retail space, or Ford Motor Company in the manufacturing and automotive space, should implement the 861 to efficiently manage your supply chain. The 861 document can provide real-time notifications of your shipments as they're received, let you know if product was damaged during transportation, or why a specific portion of a shipment was rejected.
Because the 861 can supplement or replace traditional paper receipts, utilization is often associated with improved inventory accuracy. This can also help vendors spot bottlenecks in inventory lag, and vicariously support a more harmonious business relationship between trading partners. Vendors have also utilized the 861 for automatic stock-replenishment due to the accuracy it can provide inventory tracking management, and should errors surface, provide a digital paper trail to document what went wrong so problems can quickly be corrected.
